Fall Sale This Saturday November 19th

The Annual Fall Sale is this Saturday November 19th.  With Thanksgiving next week and Christmas fast approaching you can be certain to find a hostess gift for the Thanksgiving cook and plenty of handmade clay & glass items to choose from for those on your holiday list.  This show is unique for finding a one-of-a-kind piece and buying directly from the maker. Meet our members and learn about the techniques and inspiration behind their work. The latest report is that we will be exhibiting on the East side parking lot due to renovations the church has underway. Remember this show is one day only, rain or shine. We all hope to see you there.

Frank Boyden, who received Master of Fine Arts in painting from Yale University, became seduced by clay and the world of the ceramic arts in 1968. In 1972 he stopped painting and gave his full time to clay. He began the journey of learning how to incorporate drawing techniques onto vessels and other ceramic objects and this journey continues to this day. In 1984 he built the sixth anagama kiln in America and has spent the time since then perfecting the discipline of wood firing. What sets Boyden's work apart and makes it cohesive over the past 40+ years is his energetic and fluid incised drawings on vases. His work is collected and exhibited internationally.

Glass and Mosaic Classes

Spring Glass Classes with SJCGA member Lynn Golden
If you’ve wondered what glass fusing is all about, or if you are looking for a way to combine ceramic and the bright colors of art glass, I will be teaching 2 classes this spring:
Glass Fusing: This is a 3-day workshop focusing on one specialized technique per session. Decorative processes such as torch work stringers, frits, and enamels, rubber stamping and metal infusions are covered in this workshop.
Dates: Saturday, March 5, 19 & 26
1:00 – 4:00pm
Cost: $200.00 includes supplies. Bring cutting tool and safety glasses.

Mosaic: Make a stunning stepping stone, table top or wall plaque in this three-part course. Use of found objects and “hot mosaic” components will be included.
NOTE: Don’t panic when you see the words “bring glass cutting tools”. The cutting involved in both these classes is the most basic and minimal. You can learn the skill needed for these classes in a matter of minutes! You don’t have to be able to draw either! Come and have fun!
Dates: Saturday, April 9, 16 & 23
1:00 – 4:00pm
Cost: $80.00; bring cutting tools and safety glasses
